Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service

The Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.® 2018 – 2022 International Program, Exemplifying Excellence Through Sustainable Service, includes five target Programs that are designed to advance the mission of AKA with excellence and underscore our commitment to sustainable service.

Signature Program – #CAPsm2021-03-15T01:45:34+00:00

Our signature program assists students as they seek admission to college by providing guidance and support in completing the application and enrollment process, through partnerships with public high schools, churches, and community youth programs. This educational initiative extends to all colleges and universities, both HBCUs and non-HBCUs.

#CAPSM is a step-by-step approach to facilitate college admission from researching various institutions and submitting applications through completion of the enrollment process. We assist students in completing college applications, prepare for state tests, write compelling personal statements, identify scholarships and other financial aid. Our ultimate goal is to improve the trajectory of the lives of talented young people by increasing their potential for success and laying the foundation for positive, productive, and fulfilling lives.

Target 1 – HBCU for Life: A Call to Action2021-03-15T01:47:22+00:00

Lambda Omicron Omega Chapter focuses on education with an emphasis on supporting historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs). The goal is to stamp the Alpha Kappa Alpha brand of financial support on each HBCU campus to help students remain in school, complete their course of study, and receive their college degrees.

Activities supporting this initiative include holding events, such as HBCU’s Exhibition and Alumni/Student Meet & Greet; securing 1,000 copies of I Love My Future HBCU by Nathalie Nelson Parker and distributing them to preschool and kindergarten children; establishing and maintaining partnerships with four area high schools to promote HBCU enrollment; and executing an HBCU College Fair.

Target 2 – Women’s Healthcare & Wellness2021-03-15T01:47:52+00:00

Lambda Omicron Omega Chapter aims to raise awareness of critical health issues impacting African-American women. Our primary focus is breast cancer awareness and prevention, heart health, nutrition and wellness, and care for caregivers.

Activities supporting this initiative include “Walking with the Supreme,” Breast Cancer Awareness Day, Community Health Fair, AKA National Caregivers’ Day, and Pink Goes Red. The chapter renews its partnership with the American Cancer Society every year.

Target 3 – Building Your Economic Legacy2021-03-15T01:43:54+00:00

The Lambda Omicron Omega Chapter emphasizes financial planning, asset accumulation, and wealth building including savings and investments, managing debt, and improving credit.

The chapter engages its members and the community by planning a mini financial literacy workshop; a half-day workshop focusing on personal development; and identifying, promoting, and patronizing African-American businesses.

Target 4 – The Arts!2021-03-15T01:41:48+00:00

The Lambda Omicron Omega Chapter exposes students to arts enrichment and culture by focusing on visual and performing arts and by showcasing talent through the exploration of writers, entertainers and various other artists.

The chapter partners with Booker Middle School in Sarasota, FL to develop after-school program activities to support this initiative. Activities include art events, poetry slams, dancing, painting, and performing arts.

Target 5 – Global Impact2021-03-15T01:38:03+00:00
